hi folks:
There is an urgent need to move an existing working/running mqsi/mqseries application to new platform ie from aix to hp-ux and from solaris to nt. Application needs to be moved, MQSI configured and verfication tests needs to done to prove out the new running environment.
Can someone throw some light on how to go about this task, what resources i would need, what manuals will be useful for reference, problem trouble shooting, what part of the running application can be possibly imported/exported, what part needs to be manually redone, what checks i should do to verity the new installation process, which files will have install/config errors, which cases is it necessary to uninstall/reinstall and when is it fix/continue etc. This includes both mqseries and mqsi.
I am trying to come up with a basic plan for this migration and supporting resources ie various manuals/books etc and get them in place to get started soon.
Any support will be appreciated. Please send your suggestions to itechnologist@comcast.net
thanks

Hire Help in the form of an experienced MQSI/MQ consultant who has done this before!
Moving applications/configurations especially cross platform is not a trivial task that can be answered here.

All the documents that you need can be found through the 'documentation' link at the top of this page.
Platform specific manuals are good for you. Check out Quick Beginnings for each paltform that you are looking at. Also take a look at the Intercommunication Guide. If you are using Client, just get its manual too.
The same goes for MQSI. Just download the manuals there.
As far as WMQ is concerned, it works the same on any platform. The management interface may be different, and the installation tools changes, but the basics are the same. You just need to install that on your new platform, follow the Quick Beginnings for installation steps. Once done, get the network up using the Intercommunication.
For the definitions, you should have your documentation on that, and should have been in a form of a script so that you can easily execute that on your new platform. There is also a supportpac that can help you do such. Get to the supportpac site. (or a runmqsc script to display all could also help for redefinition.. )
Same goes for MQSI. You just need to install your broker on the new platform. Then get your config manager to manage the new broker. Deploy your message flows there.
You also need to consider upgrading your MQ/MQSI to the latest version and fix level.
As for your application, you need to recompile again.
In summary, it does look pretty simple. However, I do like MichaelDag's recommendation. An experience consultant can tremendously help you in this case. |
