We are considering monitoring software for MQSeries, and are so far looking at QPASA or BMC Patrol. We had previously signed up with Tivoli, but they couldn't met our needs (I think the problem was connected to agents on our AS/400's, but I'm not sure).

Does anyone have any advice or experiences that they would like to share with me? Obvious things like whether they work, how easy to use and configure, how machine intensive they are, etc, etc

Other options can also be suggested.

many thanks

Blobtastic,

It's depend on your existing infrastructure, because BMC is a full blown monitoring solution contrarily QPasa is specialized for WebSphere family: MQ, MQe, MQSI, MQWF, WAS, etc. This difference is appreciable in prices.

When you haven't any remote management system BMC may be better. When you have, QPasa can connect directly to Tivoli or OpenView or any SNMP-based tool.

Just an info: BMC's MQ components based on the licensed contact admin's MQ management code base, but IMHO contact admin is better and cheaper. I'm not from contact admin - we are using QPasa

I have used Candle/Tivoli/Qpasa. I prefer to roll my own, we are just starting to use openview, we will redo our scripts to write to log files and let openview pick up the errors and deal with.
