I am attempting to run the runmqdlq.exe process as a service using the svrany.exe available in the resource kit. When I start the service, there are no errors, but the queue's IPProcs are not increasing, yet the process stays running. The rules file is fine, because when I take the command line of the service when it is running and run it from the command line (from the command prompt), the DLQ drains. Again it is the exact same command line pointing at the exact same rules file. The service is running as the Local System Account. I have also tried starting it as MUSR_MQADMIN.

Has anyone run into this? Is there a better way to run the dead letter handler in Windows 2000. We are using MQSeries 5.3 CSD03.

Any help is appreciated

Rather than srvany, I would use Qmgr custom services as these are lauched once the qmgr is running (ie no dependency requirements) and run under musr_mqadmin / qmgr userid

The other point is what command line do you use to run this - putting that command line into a batch pgm and running the batch pgm may be easier, as I think you have to redirect stdin?

How did you install the service, if you just did the instsrv, there is more to it. you need to go into the registry also. Using MQ Services is probable the best way as the previous poster pointed out.

We set up the registry entries properly (AppParameters, Application, etc.) in the Registry. We have the runmqlsr and a runmqtrm processes running using the svrany.exe properly. This stuff was left over from supporting MQSeries 5.1 on NT where amqmdain was not available. I will look into adding the DLQ handler as a custom service and report the results.

Thanks
