Hello.

IBM Manual says that dspmqtrc command is for Solaris, HP-UX and Linux, but a friend of mine says that it´s supported by windows.
The command in windows (if supported) needs a FMT template to run. Does anybody know if there is a FMT to windows?

Windows is the lucky platform that acutally writes the trace files in plain text , no formatting required

But why dspmqtrc.exe exist in \bin directory?
I don´t know others plataforms, but now, if you say that windows brings a log as a gift, I can imagine how log is on linux, etc...

Thanks.

Well the command is there but I could not find the template file where the manual sez it should be, I know on the HPUX platform the dspmqtrc program doesnt need the template file to work. I tried it on some HPUX traces with the template and all it does it print out the same data, maybe with some format characters in it but thats it.

So strange Jeff... Windows says the template must exist.
I think this command on windows will not change the log text (unfortunately), that´s the reason why IBM says it is not supported on windows plataform...

Yes, at 5.3 internal changes meant that in theory (and unsupported, but it could be useful!) dspmqtrc can format unix traces on Windows. DSPMQTRC was shipped but I havent had a chance to test it out, and as you said it probably needs the format file as well. The aim was to make our life slightly easier to avoid having to format the traces on the platforms they were created. (MQ Traces on windows come out already 'formatted' ie in a text readable form as .TRC/.TRS files in the global errors directory)

Great Jason... If you find the template some day and you can test it, don´t forget to advise us

Again, I think (in theory) the .fmt file can just be ftp'ed from a Unix box. (Not sure if ascii or binary transfer is required though - If anyone tries this, please let me know if it works!)

(Generally IBM service asks for the traces already formatted, as there have been instances in the past when this avoided some version and release issues, so I havent tried an unformatted trace for a long time!)
