Anyone have install instructions? I have already download csd5 (U200197A.exe)
is it simply a matter of running the exe? I want to make sure before I run it. Is ther anything specific I should do or where I should run it from. We curretnly do not have ANY csd fixes installed, just the origianl MQ 5.3 installation.
thanks |

It depends.
The basic instructions are "Just double-click the installer".
But you might want to do things like - Backup your existing configuration
- Make sure your queues are empty, or backed up
- Stop the queue manager
You know, just in case.
The queue manager will get stopped as part of the upgrade, anyway. At least, it always has in other CSDs. So be prepared for that. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

5.3 csds up to csd05 on Windows do not stop the qmgr (5.2 ones do), so manually do a net stop "IBM MQSeries" (or any other way). The csd install will fail if any process has mq libraries loaded so ensure you stop all applications, MQ Explorer and services mmc snapins etc.
If it fails, look in the %temp% directory as the csd write an install log an will give an indication on the problem.
Note I have seen problems where Java has loaded and locked the com.ibm.mq.jar file so you may need to stop a java app (even non MQ, I never understood that one) as well. |

I have followed these steps. I get this error:
Code: |
WebSphere MQ files are in use. Stop activity and retry. (AMQ4757) |
I have done everything I can. I have stopped ALL non system critical services. I can't figure out what is "active". Anyone have a clue or thought? |

1. Stop all MQ applications
2. net stop "IBM MQSeries"
3. End any mmc snapin (Explorer, Services)
4. Ensure anyt Java process is ended
5. Run install of CSD
If it fails, look in %temp% for the log file and see which file in use. If its the com.ibm.mq.jar file, you didnt end all java processes. If its amqxcs2* get listdlls from www.sysinternals.com, and find which process has amqxcs2.dll loaded and end it.
Note if amqperf* is loaded then it cant get unloaded so a reboot may be necessary (its the performance tokens). |

I have found that the following Services must be stopped before attempting to install a CSD at version 5.3 of MQ. This list grows and grows the more upgrades I do:
o BGS_SDService
o CPQHosts
o Compaq EcoTools
o Compaq Versioning Control
o IBM MQSeries
o IBM MQSI Broker
o IBM MQSI Configuration Manager
o Norton Anti Virus
o Performance Data Log Service
o QPASA (all three components)
o SMV Collector
o Tivoli
o Windows Management Instrumentation
Make sure the little icon in the System Tray is also gone (right click Hide), as it uses MQ files even if MQ the service is stopped. Give it a minute to be released.
Even after stopping all these services, sometimes files are still locked up, and the listdlls.exe from sysinternalls has been a life saver in identifying other executables that have the MQ dlls in use. _________________ Peter Potkay

I got a similar error like nathan did, and mqseries made me look stupid when i realised what i had done wrong (I had tried and checked all the activites and stopped everything)
But forgot to close the readme file that i had opened earlier on . and once i closed the readme, it did install CSD05. _________________ Appreciate your help |
