I'm sure this will turn out to be something stupid. That said, I have a queue with triggger type of depth and a trigger depth of 1. When I change trigger set to Y it changes back to N.

Oddly this does not happen when the trigger type is set to first.

Any ideas what is going on here?

There is a comment in the Application Programming Guide:
Quote:
With triggering by depth, the queue manager disables triggering (using the TriggerControl attribute) after it creates a trigger message. Your application must re-enable triggering itself (by using the MQSET call) after this has happened.

Page 205 of my manual. Sounds like it is working as designed.

Apart from what is written in the manual, I might think that this is because the depth is at 1. So when the message comes in, it sets off the trigger. So for subesquent message in the queue, when it has not reached 0 yet, the trigger remains at N. Because it is supposed to trigger only after the message depth 1 comes in.
I maybe wrong in this, but is that the case? That there were messages coming in after you set trigger to Y ?
