Kolban,
I installed MQJE on my Win2K laptop with only the MQ Client installed (5.2.1). MQJE is working great; I can see all my Queue Managers in my network, except I am having problems with my OS/390 Queue Managers. MQExplorer does not support OS/390. Does MQJExplorer have the same restriction?
Here is the error I get. (I am able to connect to this queue manager using other applications (QPASA, WatchQ, etc)
New Queue Manager selection!
Path: [IBM MQSeries, Queue Managers]
New Queue Manager selection!
Path: [IBM MQSeries, Queue Managers, MQZ1 on ZMNODE1(1414)]
Failed to connect to queue manager: com.ibm.mq.MQException: Completion Code 2, Reason 2009
connectSelected: com.ibm.mq.MQException: Completion Code 2, Reason 2009

Correct. MQJExplorer also does NOT support MQ/390. Both MQJExplorer and MQExplorer send and receive PCF formatted messages. Unfortunately, MQ/390 does not support these commands and I know of no plans to add support. As a result, it, amongst all the other flavors, remains the odd one out. |

I think you can buy a PCF command server for OS/390 from contact admin, but it remains a very annoying limitation. Considering how much software for OS/390 costs it's not much to ask that it works as well as the UNIX or NT versions!
I recently inquired about the price of IBM/Tivoli's Policy Director for MQSeries and the cost on UNIX was very reasonable. The cost on our OS/390 platform was astronomical. This is why people don't favour OS/390 for new applications. |
