What would be the best Migration Strategy? In-Place vs Parallel?
What would be real challenges if we do In-Place migration from IIB 9 to 10 And MQ 8 to MQ9? |

Rather than asking complete strangers, what benefits and risks do you see from either/both of these? _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

There are a number of factors to consider. If there was a "best" strategy, there wouldn't be 2 strategies.

Going back to the previous version if it goes sideways? Maybe? _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

In-Place requires a really solid backout strategy that has been tested, and confidence that non-serious issues can be investigated and remediated on the fly.
Parallel requires confidence that the old and new environments can process workloads in exactly the same manner, and one or the other environment (or parts of them) can be switched off or switched on with no impact.
Also, the business system end-points need assess the risk and agree to your chosen strategy. Involve them in the decision making. Be prepared to explain and justify all the technical considerations and decisions. _________________ Glenn |

I would not try in place, because from where you come from, there's probably also an OS upgrade involved... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |
