Hi,
I am unable to logon to the Formatter GUI when i connect to Neon DB which is located on AIX. I have registered the Neon DB using ODBC and the test connection is sucessful. Strangest part is..i was able to logon to the Neon DB till yesterday and have created formats. Today when i give the connection parameters..it just hangs there. I am able to logon to the GUI if i use another database which i have instatiated on NT.
Any clue, why its happening? where can i look for the log files? No errors in the event viewer.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,

I'm trying to get a sense of what order these events took place. It sounds like you did the following:
1. Created the ODBC connection.
2. Tested the ODC connection successfully.
3. Brought up Formatter GUI successfully.
4. Later had connectivity issues.
If so, I would recheck the connection and make sure you have not encountered database/network issues on your remote server. Can you bring up a db2 command line and connect to the database manually?
Also, take a look for any NNSYMessageLog.nml files and the event viewer. Might get some hints from there.
Good Luck. |

Thanks for your reply.
The scenerio is like this. I created the NEON Database on AIX using user db2inst1. Instatiated it using the user db2inst1.
Created a ODBC connection on NT and tested with user db2inst1. It worked well. I was able to logon to the GUI till day-before-yesterday providing user as db2inst1.
Taking your suggestion, if i connect to NEON DB using user db2inst1 its connects, but it doesn't log into the Formatter GUI.
But if u use the db2admin user it fails and asks to reset the password saying its expired.
All services on my NT related to DB2 runs using the id db2admin.
What userid does one use to register the NEON database on the NT machine? the one which he uses to create (db2inst1) or the one which is defined on NT (db2admin).

Hi,
I wasn't able to find a work-around my problem. Finally, created a new database to hold formats and instantiated it. The only change i did this time was.. while i instantiated, the value i gave for database server name (one of the steps while instantiating db) was the "AIX host name". Earlier it was "DB2". I saw somewhere that the value for database server name should be the host name. Is it right? All along i have been giving DB2 and its been working for me. This is the first time i encountered such an issue and i thought let me give it a try by changing the value.
Thankfully, we are in a process of setting up the infrastructure but when it goes live and if i encounter such problems, i can't do the above reffered steps. Strangest part is, i wasn't able to export formats from the old db. I had to loose all the formats i created.
Now everything seems to be okie..but still have the fear when would the formatter refuse to accept the creditantials.
Any views..why did it happen? What value should be given for database server name parameter while instantiating the DB?
Regards,
Vishal |
