Hi All,
What are these adapters actually and where do they run. To my understanding they will be listening on some queue to which your WMQI will output the message. Is this ri8? and i often think why exactly we need these adapters cant we do the same thing by writing an application in java or any other language?
now a days i see more requirements on these adapters so i just want to make myself clear why exactly we need an adapter?
Note: If this questions is not to be posted here. plz forgive me. |

The WBI adapters come in two flavours, application adapters and technology adapters.
Application adapters are integrated with common business application like SAP, Seibel, Peoplesoft etc.
Technology adapters are for such things as JDBC dbs, text files, XML files, swift, mqseries etc etc.
These can run either remotely on a WBI ICS/WBIMB (WMQI) server or alternatively locally on a business application server. They provide a bi-directional interface to either ICS or WMQI.
Now, why would we want to use them? Quite simply to avoid having to build bespoke solutions for all applications,OS,DBMS etc. The advantage of using an off the shelf adapter is not only that the application and its developers are shielded from the complexities of accessing the application data in a transitionally sound way, but also that the cost of developing/supporting a custom solution is eliminated. So reducing long term costs, providing upgrade insulation when the business application is upgraded and removing the need for specialist development skills.
In addition these WBI products generally have some sort of object discovery agent included which acquires meta data from the business applications and enables the definitions to be imported in to your broker - reducing development & maintainance effort further.
However, obviously there will always be a role for bespoke development in some circumstances!
Hope that gives a little help!
