Hi Everyone,
We have a requirement where we need to interact with Mainframes from IIB and we are planning to use CICSRequest node. I have read that we can send requests to CICS system either through CICS Transaction Gateway(three- tier) or direct IPIC(two-tier).
I would like to know, which one is better in terms of through put and connectivity and any other parameters.
Also, if we use 3-tier, can we directly integrate CICS server with IIB or do we need to use Java in middle?
IIB Version is 10.0.0.4.
Appreciate for your help.
Thanks

You should ask your CICS/zOS administrators.
They will tell you what you need to do for their system.
You will also have to understand *exactly* what the CICS nodes do, and how they communicate with CICS. _________________ chmod -R ugo-wx / |

You may well find they don't allow the use of IPIC and insist on the CTG.

This is also a conversation for the CICS sysprogs and the CICS application owners. They may well have very specific view on data formats (Channels v COMMAREA for example) _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

There was a change in behavior in how the CICS nodes connect to CICS at some previous version of IIB (v8?)
Lyn Elkins may have a rant or two on this subject... _________________ chmod -R ugo-wx / |

It was v7, and there is nothing left to say. |

Thanks mqjeff,Vitor and elkins.
yes Vitor, as you said CICS team saying that CTG set up is already available and asking, why we need IPIC.
That's why I would like to check which one is better, through IPIC(tier-2) or through CTG(tier-3).
And from IIB point of view, is there any complexity in configuration for tier 2 or tier 3?
Thanks

Better how? Faster? Easier to build? More supported by your team? Supported by the CICS nodes in broker?
The performance report should mention something about the performance of the CICS nodes.
For the rest, these are things to answer yourself.
And before you try that, think very hard about the question asked by your zOS admins - "Why do you need IPIC ? " _________________ chmod -R ugo-wx / |

Better in the terms of faster, easier to build and supported by CICS nodes in IIB.
So If I get the details, I can decide whether to go with 2- tier or 3-tier approach. |

Both are supported, both are performant and both offer challenges to development.

So you're happy to go head to head with the CICS team and demand that they set up and support IPIC because that's "better" for IIB? Without worrying too much about why they chose not to support it in preference to CTG? _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

I am going with CTG way(3-tier) only, as the setup is already available on CICS servers. |
