I was just wondering as to how hot is MQ right now and what kind of future can one expect for one who has say good exposure in MQ,Workflow and MQSI. Basically what I want to know is if one KNOWS MQ family, can he/she be cool without the need to learn every other technology out there( say first it was c then c++, Java and now .NET). Any expert insight is highly respected. Mind you I just started knowing MQ just a week back. so any presumptions should be gleefully overlooked.

Personally I don't believe that MQ can be viewed in 'total' isolation from anything else.

My own feeling is that MQ is one of many business solutions. Choosing the correct solution for a business application requires at least a knowledge of what solutions are out there. Unless you are wanting to simply deal with MQ (and/or Workflow) as a 'site expert' then I believe that you should have at least a working knowledge of some of the platforms.

If you want is to be viewed as the MQ point person (the 'go to guy') for your company then you would also need to be able to help them with programming their MQI calls and there application design (from the MQ standpoint). This would imply that you have at least some programming knowledge in at least one of the languages supported.

Being purely an MQ Administrator is likely to be the only role that 'theorectically' doesn't need anything but MQ experience, but even then I would recommend that you carry more skills to the table than just MQ....if only to make you more attractive as an asset.

Hope this helps
