Dear all,

Normal install and setup the MQ Series at WIN2k server without any problem (non domain controller), but when the server changes it to domain controller. My MQ Series will have the error occur. I try to re-install the MQ Series, the same error also occur or creating the QMGR without success (keep on running without error or success msg) or created the qmgr but can't bring the qmgr up. I try to follow the MQ Series Security manual to configure the authority also can't work.

Now my question is do you have any good advice step for install and setup the MQ Series at WIN2K after the Domain Controller created? Any different for if the server is domain controller or it joins other domain?

Regards
Syangloo

Hi Syangloo,

Altering the state of a machine between server and domain controller can affect the operation of WebSphere MQ, because WebSphere MQ uses a locally-defined mqm group. When a server is promoted to be a domain controller, the scope changes from local to domain local. When the machine is demoted to server, all domain local groups are removed.

This means that changing a machine from server to domain controller and back to server loses access to a local mqm group.

To remedy this problem, re-create the local mqm group using the standard Windows 2000 management tools. Because all group membership information is lost, you must reinstate privileged WebSphere MQ users in the newly-created local mqm group. If the machine is a domain member, you must also add the domain mqm group to the local mqm group to grant privileged domain WebSphere MQ user IDs the required level of authority.

Please see the notes Guidelines for Windows 2k
Chapter 10 in System Administration .

Hope this might help you
Cheers,
raj

Raj, thanks for you reply.

I've solve the probelm.

I un-install MQ Series and clean the entire register file which related to MQ Series. Remove the mqm and Domain mqm group from the system and manually delete the MQ Series folder.

After that I install the MQ Series, make sure the mqm, domain mqm group and MUSR_MQADMIN user is created after the installation.
Make sure the user id I plan to use have the authority for the MQ Series folder in the system and add the domain mqm and mqm group in.
Make sure the Domain mqm have the authority to create and clean the client object in the security option.

Re-start the system, and then create the QMGR with the user id I set before. It works as usual.

I hope my step can help other which facing the same problem in future.
