I desperately need your help!
WebSphere MQ V7R0M1 went out of support last September and I’m trying to get a copy of it for IBM OS400 V5R4.
I have MQ V7R0M0 but it’s not compatible with OS400 V7R1
I have MQ V7R1M0 but it’s not compatible with OS400 V5R4
I need MQ V7R0M1 which is compatible with all OS400 V5R4 onwards.
Cheers Dino |

A bit more background and info:
Basically I’m preparing my LPAR’s for upgrading the OS400 from V5R4 to V7R1 and the only stumbling block we have is finding a copy of MQ that’s compatible on both (V5R4 onwards)
The only version that will cover this is V7R0M1 with the service packs:
See sections Operating systems Notes: 3 WebSphere MQ V7.0.1.2 or later is required.
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27011923
Is there anybody out there with copy, download link, SAVF, of this version so I can continue with the upgrades?
It must be the V5R4 version that I can put in to production now and leave in place when I do the STROBJCVN to V7R1.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Dino |

Dear Dino,
Does it really matter?
You seem to have a working V5R4 system in PROD.
I do hope you can clone / rebuild it.
For the upgraded system I would not keep the version of MQ @ 7.0.x as that went out of support last September but upgrade to a supported version (8.0.0.4 ?) of MQ.
So you need to determine your path from the current prod version to the upgraded version:
clone prod to upgrade test
remove MQ
upgrade OS
add MQ new version?
test, test and test again...
Hope this helps some. _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Thanks for the prompt response.
Yes your right we have many working versions at OS400 V5R4, but as you may know V5R4, V6R1 of the IBM OS400 are also out of support.
The problem is, that I have 6 systems that all need upgrading before Easter straight from V5R4 to V7R1.
Any other time what you recommended:
clone prod to upgrade test
remove MQ
upgrade OS
add MQ new version?
test, test and test again...
.... would be the best solution.
But being a high availability systems the company will only allow a select amount of outages per year or we incur charges. So MQ series V8 would need a slip install at a later date.
But the issue I have is that 1x system takes approximately 27-32 hours to backup and upgrade fully and I don't really want to be upgrading more apps afterwards for example MQ.
Times that by 5 more systems and I may as well start packing my suitcase and living at work and kiss goodbye to the wife and kids
My easiest and best course of action would be the following on all 6 systems:
Slip install the MQ V7R0M1 over V6 on all systems at OS400 V5R4
install latest fix pack for it on all systems.
test, test, test
Then arrange to upgrade the OS400 to one system per weekend on the run up to Easter.
Then when the dust settles and systems are stable:
Slip install MQ V8 over the V7.
This would be my easiest route and the only way I can get everything including other applications that are out of date all working on a stable V5R4 system that will compile to the new OS400 V7R1
So V7R0M1 is the only version that its compatible all thru the OS400 upgrades and would make our life a little easier and less chance of the suitcases being left on the doorstep when I get back home.
I hope that makes sense |

Looks like you don't have much of a choice ....
Your current MQ doesn't work with the upgraded system anymore?
If you have any problems IBM will ask you to upgrade MQ before they even look at the problem...
Dutifully prepare your test environments, use the time you can to test and do the upgrade in one full sweep.

Your IBM rep just might be able to arrange for what you need. I've seen it happen on occasion.
Otherwise, your software license with IBM prevents you, and the folks reading this, from redistributing licensed software to others. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

Thanks guys, We have an extended support contract with IBM to cover us for the OS400, but unsure if this covers us for the MQ software.
I already have MQ versions V6, V7, V8 onsite and ready to install.
So I think the IBM should be a little forgiving and provide the version with the modification level we require in the interim before Easter....
Just thought I could try my luck on here first as it wasn't available in my entitlements and that's when I found out it went out of service last September
Time to start chasing the IBM guys...fingers crossed. |
