instead of running dspmq, might it not be better to examine the output of the runmqsc command display qmstatus?
A little bit more difficult as you would have to issue it against every "running" qmgr... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

I am checking with my tools team to see if the tool(BMC) can do this. bt that would connect to the qmgr as client. Qpasa! might also be able to do this, but that depends on its agent running on the server(I mean , if the agent is not running for some reason, it might not be able to gather any info). |

You have a choice with these tools.
1) Agentless
or
2) Agent running on the Server (Tivoli, QPasa etc)
No system is perfect but some will alert you if the agent can't be reached as that might be a sign of a system crash or a network error.
Compromised will have to be made but if your budget can affort a commercial tool then it will be better (and more supportable) than the 'roll your own' types.
I've been battling against a 'Roll Your Own' solution at one of our sites.
The want me to supply Queue Depths every 30 seconds to a WebServcie. Ok. We implemented it. Then we get hit with complaints because their solution (from some no-name outfit in India) can't keep the webservice we have to send data to up for more than 18 hours at a time
Now... What would be best for your business? Some solution like the one I described above or one that is in use all over the world by major organisations?
You pays your money and takes your choice just don't ever ask me to support a 'R-Y-O' solution. _________________ WMQ User since 1999

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions. |

In a robust monitoring tool...
Agents typically send heartbeats to their server, so that a failed agent (one that doesn't respond to the heartbeat) would be automatically restarted.
More generally, a robust monitoring tool can detect loss of a monitored component (a server, an agent, a sub-system, a network component), send notifications, and effect recovery. The recovery can include rebooting an image, restarting a service, restarting a device. Recovery can be cross-platform. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.
