Does IIB provide support to connect to a FTP/SFTP server?
If so, please explain which node needs to be used.

Yes.

The ones that it's not hard to guess, if you think about what the File Transfer Protocol is used for.

Or if you prefer:

The ones that come up if you type "ftp" into the InfoCenter search. The same search will also have a number of useful links on how to configure the transfer (especially for sftp) and what options exist to avoid hard coding server names.

Yes I did try FileInput node and gave the FTP server and port details and username in the respective tabs. But I was unable to connect to it. I also connected a trace node to my failure node to see if any error occurred. But that too did not help.

I am not sure how to give my password in this.

Could you please help

First of all - use a configurable service to hold the FTP/SFTP server name and directory details - never hard code these in a flow.

Secondly - use mqsisetdbparms command to store credentials for access. Use SSH keys for SFTP in preference to passwords.

The "username" as you call it - is the name of the security id, which is set by mqsisetdbparms. That entry holds the actual FTP userid/password or reference to the key file.

RTM.

Try this:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSKM8N_8.0.0/com.ibm.etools.mft.doc/ac55422_.htm

and take a look at this, to follow the @zpat advice to parametrize the FTP/SFTP details:
