I want to know is it possible to change the name of the MQ installation directory i.e
/opt/mqm/8 to say /opt/mqm/8.0.0
Such that I do the following:
1) Stop the QMGR
1) Unset the MQ Installation Primary location
2) Rename the MQ Binary directory from /opt/mqm/8 to /opt/mqm/8.0.0
3) Set the MQ installation Path to the new directory
4) Start the QMGR and go on my way? (Same for multi instance set up)
Or do I have to unset, uninstall mq, wipe out the directory, create the new dir and install to the new location, etc.? |

You could just install another copy of MQ using multi-install.
If you rename the directory, it will be out of sync with the software respository and make future maintenance difficult for one thing. _________________ Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error. This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to human error. |

So you are saying install a new copy to the desired directory and update the QMGR to point to the new path and wipe out my old installation dir? |

Don't know what other software you have installed that might be referencing the existing directory... so wiping it out is a little bit harsh... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Because none of us have a definitive answer.
As my associate says, try it in dev. Let us know how it works out for you. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
