I've got JText adapters running on a Windows 2000 server using "Scheduled Tasks". They don't need to run all day long, just overnight, so I scheduled them for 6 PM and set it so that the tasks are killed after 12 hours. Unfortunately, it only kills the "CMD" process and leaves the "java.exe" process behind (there's one of each when you start the program).
This is the command in Scheduled Tasks:
cmd /c start_JText JText QMAN -cmyconfig.cfg
If I were to run the adapter from a DOS window myself, I can kill it by pressing Control+C or killing the "process tree" for the CMD process.
How do I get Windows to kill it properly? Or is there a way to make the adapter stop running all by itself after a period of time?

Can you not just kill he java.exe processes then?
I was under the impression that when you configured the adapter you could set the periods at which it would run (PollEndTime - PollStartTime) - however this functionality may only be available when running with WICS - where the adapter controller on the WICS server starts and stops the agent? I'd check this is the adapters documentation. |

Yes, I can kill the java.exe processes *manually*. The Windoze "Scheduled Tasks" would be better, only it won't kill the java portion. *sigh*
The poll times don't appear to shut down the java process, they just stop it from polling for files, unless I'm mistaken...
I'll have to play around with it a bit more to see what I can come up with.

In NT & W2K Server CD-ROM (Support\Tools) there is a very useful kill.exe utility that kills all instances of a process with a pattern e.g. java.exe or a PID.
I've hear of problems with the W2K version (only working with PID and not a pattern) in this case you could use the tlist.exe (also support\tools!) to get a list of PIDs and patterns....
Anyway - the following link has an internet download for the kill & tlist utils (NT versions I believe).

Have fun
