Hi all,
I am new to the forum and MQ.
I have a customer which is a Financial Institute. I am tasked to install the Fix pack 3 and 4 on an existing MQ 7.5 installation with OS Linux.
From MQ Fix pack installation, what are the key things to consider before applying the fix pack.
I believe, MQ Fix pack 4 will be sufficient as its cumulative so there is no need to install Fix pack 3. Please correct me if I am wrong.
On high level, I am thinking to do the following steps:
1- Backup the existing installation so that I will have a restore point in case roll back is required?
2- Copy the installation media and check the disk space.
3- Update the fix pack and verify after completing the patch.
4- Verify the security certificate
5- Perform a smoke testing
6- Anything else?
Thanks. |

Fixpacks are cumulative - just apply the latest (actually this is 7.5.0.5 now).
What platform is this? _________________ Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error. This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to human error. |

MQ Platform is Linux. I know about FP5 but would go for 4.
Can you share your thoughts about things to consider? |

Consider showing your customer the several dozen fixes in 7505 not present in 7504. _________________ Peter Potkay

On your other questions, my usual backout plan is to remove the fixpack and re-install the previous version (and/or previous fixpack).
Restoring the binaries would leave them out of step with the software installation registry (whatever it's called in Linux).
You should practise the backout process to make sure it's going to work, and also consider the use of multi-install as way to migrate and backout. _________________ Well, I don't think there is any question about it. Since 7.0.1.6 (I think, check it out in the infocenter) you can have more than 1 version of the product co-exist on the same host. This is what zpat meant with multi-installation.

Multi-installation is new to midrange MQ, but has been on MVS (z/OS) for many years. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.
