They have a different code base, they run on different hardware, and there's a huge difference in cost...

...seriously, there is a wealth of information, freely available, for you to do your own research and not have a bunch of strangers on the internet do it for you

One runs on mainframe. One runs on Unix.

There is a difference in the default syncpoint option! There are some unique features such as queue sharing groups (sysplex)

I would say that mainframe MQ tends to lag distributed in terms of feature release dates.

Mainframes in general can cope with higher loads, and are more stable.

I would generally trust one mainframe to be good enough for most purposes, whereas I would always want a cluster of Unix hosts (and I don't trust Windows at all).

Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error. This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to human error.

If the OP's use of "mainframe" means MQ on z/OS, then Parallel Sysplex offers Queue Sharing Groups. If the OP's use of "mainframe" means MQ on zLinux, then no.
