If I am going to upgrade the MQ client on WINDOWS from v7.0.1.x to v8.0.0.2. Do I have to uninstall MQ v7.0.1.x first?
This is assuming I do not want both versions. I want to know if going to 8.0.0.2 will automatically upgrade the prior version. |

If you don't want co-existence of versions it is self-evident what you need to do, however, if you want to temporarily co-exist the versions until you are sure that your application works correctly at the new level, it is also self-evident what you need to do... _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

It is not self-evident if you have to uninstall 7.0.1 before installing 8.0 into the same primary location.
Read the IBM knowledge center to be certain. _________________ Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error. This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to human error. |

It seems self-evident to me that if you have to uninstall 7.0.1 before installing 8.0 then there is nothing to upgrade, for all intents and purposes it's a new installation, irrespective if whether you install it into the 'same primary location' or not. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

The guy wants to know if he has to uninstall 701 in order to install 8, or can he install 8 over the top.
Either way it's an upgrade in the sense of moving from 7 to 8, or do we live in a parallel universe to you? _________________ Well, I don't think there is any question about it. Not what I read, which was:

No, but I think we interpreted the OP's post differently. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

The simple answer is, uninstall is not required.
Right?
Atleast that was the case on Unix systems even earlier when everything was going to /usr/mqm (/opt/mqm or /usr/lpp/mqm) |

Not when applying fix packs. But it used to be when switching versions... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Thank you for asking such a clearly worded question. To go from V7.0.1.x to V8.0.0.2 you do not need to uninstall the old version first. Upgrading in the same location will automatically upgrade the prior version.
Cheers
