Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions.
The Environment tree is a logical message tree. You access it the same way you access every other logical message tree. It doesn't happen to have any message parsers assigned to it. So if you need to work with parsable data, you need to create a parser tree in it.
Otherwise, you can use standard Java methods to access whatever you mean by "ENV".
