We had MQ 7 and Broker 7 toolkit on the same box. We like to upgrade to MQ 8 and keep broker 7 and toolkit.
We unistalled MQ 7 and reinstalled MQ 8, then we checked few runmqsc command, channels and queues are all good and queue manager is running fine. dspmqver returned version 8.0.0.2.
then open MQ explorer but its completed blank, just few buttons on top. no javaw.exe running. I assume broker explorer might confuse it? reinstalled it same result. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Did you use an old Shortcut to the Explorer? i.e. one that points to V7 of MQ
I've done this upgrade several times (overwriting MQ7 with MQ8 in the same location) and not run into problems. _________________ WMQ User since 1999

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions. |

Also depending on your version of MQ 7, the MQ explorer runs on a different version of eclipse. The links folder might not be in the same place anymore... Did you check which version of Broker 7 was good to run with MQ8? I don't remember seeing anything about MQ8 with broker below broker 8...
Found this on developerworks:

WebSphere MQ 8 is not currently supported for any version of WebSphere Message Broker 7.x and there are no current plans to provide support in the future because the client jars shipped with WMQ 8 are not compatible with the version of the JRE runtime used by the Broker.
WebSphere MQ 8 is supported on WMB 8 starting fixpack 8.0.0.4 but requires customers to install interim fix for APAR IT03599. You will need to contact IBM technical support for access to this interim fix.
WebSphere MQ 8 is supported on IIB 9 starting fixpack 9.0.0.2 and no additional interim fix is required.
You can find information about all supported version of Websphere MQ in the IIB/WMB System requirements: IBM Integration Bus formerly WebSphere Message Broker http://www-01.ibm.com/software/integration/wbimessagebroker/requirements/ |
What you can have is multiple installations of MQ and multiple installations of MQExplorer on the same box... (it is what I have) and I can run WMB7, WMB8 or IIB9 with no problems (although not all at the same time...)
