OMG - we're all out of a job...
But the security model might prove a challenge to for us to live with.
The data mirroring is interesting - like to see that in the standard MQ. _________________ Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error. This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to human error. |

Hi,
I am reading the InterConnect presentation about MQAppliance (session AME 4166) and I have some questions ...
Page 25 : "A few new commands, such as dspmqerr"
dspmqerr ? a new command probably, not in 8.0.0.2.
And how about logs (S00000xx.LOG).
I know it will not be possible to install custom code on the device. So, no SupportPacks, like MS62, to handle purge of linear logs.
Does this mean that all Queue Manager will be with circular log?
Or that there will be (finally) a solution to manage linear logs within MQ? _________________ lmd_at_demey-consulting.fr - http://demey-consulting.fr - Paris, France.

Does the launch of new IBM MQ Appliance means that MQ wil not be available as a software product ? Or its just another way how reliable messaging can be provided in the form of an appliance ? |

Considering the user base and revenue, especially on z/OS, I would very much doubt that it's likely to disappear... _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

The Price of these appliances (Due to PVU type licensing) is going to make them well outside the scope for a good percentage of MQ Customers.
We generally sell 140PVU servers. These units whilst nice are specced for approx an order of magnitude higher that this (At least) _________________ WMQ User since 1999

There's a rather good presentation on the Global Websphere Community website somewhere from Lief Davidson that talks about the possible use cases and placement of the appliance. Mr Google can find it for you. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

What, with an A model that gives you one EG and a B model that's astronomical in price? _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

I'd be surprised if it did. IBM's general direction is away from appliances.
I'd expect to see something like a cloud offering, where you can pay by transactions/invocations of message flows, on a managed service. _________________ chmod -R ugo-wx / |
