I have an issue.
When I start a queue manager with STRQMQ and log off, the queue manager 'ends unexpectedly'. This does not happen when the queue manager is started from MQ explorer.
Another strange issue is that the AMQERR01.LOG file does not show any error messages regarding this. There are no FDCs either.
Windows 2003
MQ v6 (I know it's old but I'm curious about this behavior)
Has anyone experienced this issue? |

If you have started it manually and logoff then it will stop
You need to stop/start the queue manager as a service
See the install guides |

Thanks. I know that is an available option in v7.x but not in v6.x.
For which I needed to go into the properties of the queue manager and change start up from Manual to Automatic. |

Have you looked at the parameters you can pass to the crtmqm command?
You may have to use one of those... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

This isn't really an MQ issue; rather it's an IPL issue. Go to google. Search for Add Commands to iSeries Startup Program. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

rcp_mq mentioned STRQMQ, which is ISeries.
rcp_mq also said it was on windows, using MQ v6, which would use STRMQM.
So it's only a little confusing.
Altering the properties of the MQ service is a reasonable thing to do to start a queue manager as a service, rather than running strmqm from a login shell. but there's also amqoamd or sommat... I've forgotten. |

I read the OP as an iSeries issue, along with a new-to-MQ sysadmin issue.
Starting a qmgr with automation is not new, and is available on all platforms, and all versions of MQ. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

Sorry for the typo, I meant STRMQM (which is common for all platforms AFAIK)
amqmdain qmgr start is the same as STRMQM -ss in v7. I couldn't find such an option with STRMQM for v6. |

The well-documented control command is strmqm, not STRMQM. http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSFKSJ_7.5.0/com.ibm.mq.ref.adm.doc/q083650_.htm _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

On UNIX and Windows, the commands are lower case, although Windows also accepts mixed case. "dSpMqVer" anyone? iSeries AS400 likes upper case.
From the OP, I thought it was pretty clear they were discussing Windows. Why they are still using MQ v6 is anyone's guess. _________________ Glenn |

We use MQ 5.3(!) to MQ 8 on every supported platform...why 5.3, it's what the client's MQ expert wants, period.
Now telemetry is supported for mobile transactions. What remains is cloud and OO runmqsc scripting! |

Anyone who still wants to use MQ 5.3 is not an expert - but then I am sure you know that. _________________ Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error. This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to human error. |

I suspect that the self-described "expert" is an expert only on 5.3. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.
