Hi,
Are there any best practices on how many channels are good enough? We deployed the MQ/MB/Datapower solution a few years ago and configured a single channel for Datapower to connect to MQ. We recently had an incident where a runaway application maxed out the number of channels and impacted other applications.
The maxchannels and maxactivechannels werent set in the QM qm.ini file so we reacted by bumping them up to 1500. Now there is a thought to create dedicated channels for various applications that connect via Datapower.
We are going to migrate from a standalone QM setup to a clustered environment with multiple QMs and brokers. Given the fact that we are still developing the MQ/MB skills in the organization, I am concerned about the complexity and management overhead in the near future.
So I am reaching out to this community for some guidance.

Keep count by channel and use MAXINST and MAXINSTC. Don't exceed what the stanzas MaxChannels and MaxActiveChannels. Use the TCP stanza for KeepAlive and adjust the TCP KeepAlive for the OS.
