There seems to have been a security vunerability in the original 8.0.0.1.
IBM sent out an email about it yesterday to those who had downloaded the original FP (at least in the UK)

Hi,

can anybody tell me what are the differences between 8.0.0-WS-MQ-Linux X64-FP0001b and 8.0.0-WS-MQ-Linux X64-FP0001???

How did you find the second one (without the b)? That's the one I was trying to get and couldn't.

As smdavies99 says, it's probably a good idea to install the b version.

Well, I don't know exactly, but I think I downloaded it between Sept. 15th and 17th.

Are people still getting the problem reported earlier in this thread with the *b release? I am getting this

Code:

Flexeraawm$aaa: Windows DLL failed to load
   at Flexeraawm.af(Unknown Source)
   at Flexeraawm.aa(Unknown Source)
   at com.zerog.ia.installer.LifeCycleManager.init(Unknown Source)

   at com.zerog.ia.installer.Main.main(Unknown Source)

   at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:619)
   at com.zerog.lax.LAX.launch(Unknown Source)
   at com.zerog.lax.LAX.main(Unknown Source)

Even when run as Administrator.
Sigh.

Not just me then...

...I haven't had a chance to try it on anything other than Win 8.1 Pro, so what platform was it you tried it on please?

I tried it on Server 2008-R2 64bit and the Server 2015 preview.

OK. I have a 2010 installation I can try it on early next week, but I'm still leaning toward it being a bug in the installer...

EDIT: I meant 2012

I tried it on two more VM's.

Server 2008 R2 -64 bit fully patched, not in a domain --- WORKED
Server 2012 R2 -64 bit fully patched, not in a domain --- FAILED
(7.5.0.3 is also installed and is the primary installation)

the whole thing seems to be a bit 'iffy' to say the least.

As a result, I've recommended that we do not use 8.0.0.1 for any of our upcoming clients even though one is telling me that we must use 8.0.0.1 despite not being able to tell me why they must have it. There is really nothing in the changes of fubctionality that make V8 different from V7.5 that they will use. All the setmqaut rules that we need are there in V7.5.
I really don't want to go through installing V8 and then have the 8.0.0.1 FP Fail in full view of the customer.

Sounds like IBM should re-base MQ at 8.0.0.1 to save customers a load of hassle.

To everyone seeing the following issue with the 8.0.0.1 update:

Code:

Flexeraawm$aaa: Windows DLL failed to load
   at Flexeraawm.af(Unknown Source)
   at Flexeraawm.aa(Unknown Source)
   at com.zerog.ia.installer.LifeCycleManager.init(Unknown Source)
   at com.zerog.ia.installer.LifeCycleManager.executeApplication(Unknown Source)
   at com.zerog.ia.installer.Main.main(Unknown Source)
   at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method)
   at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:94)
   at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:55)
   at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:619)
   at com.zerog.lax.LAX.launch(Unknown Source)
   at com.zerog.lax.LAX.main(Unknown Source)

This should only be seen on Windows 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 as it is an issue with Windows versions 6.3 (and higher).

Many apologies for this, but there is a workaround. Please set the compatibility mode for the WS-MQ-8.0.0-FP0001.exe to Windows 7. We have tested this and successfully installed the update.

Thanks John. I was seeing the same issue with the MS0T Support Pac Explorer package. Setting compatibility mode for the "setup.exe" worked here too.

Cheers,
Paul

Sadly this workaround may not be the end of the matter.

When I try to remove the FixPack files from the system using Control-Panel->Programs->select MQ 8.0.0.1 -->Uninstall

I get the same crash stack dump.

After some investigation I found that you have to apply the same 'compatibility' setting process to the following file

Code:

Change IBM WebSphere MQ (fix pack 8.0.0.1 files) Installation.exe

This may be located somewhere like
Code:

C:\Program Files\IBM\source\WebSphere MQ 8.0.0.1\_IBM WebSphere MQ (fix pack 8.0.0.1 files)_installation

This will remove the FP files from the system. I only discovered this because I'm preparing some installation documentation and needed to go through the whole process again becaue I missed capturing one screenshot.

The "Windows DLL failed to load" issues are resolved in the 8.0.0.2 fix pack. Apologies for any inconvenience you endured with the 8.0.0.1 fix pack.

(If you have not applied 8.0.0.1, you can of course skip it and go straight to 8.0.0.2 as all fix packs are cumulative.)
