| OOPs forgive me again ,obviously the old bar line is at the 31 bit level ,and the new 64 bit bufferpools are available only when the Qmanager starts in newfunc,800 mode.. |

I doubt WMB 8.0 or IIB 9.0 is supported at MQ 8.0. Nice goal though. I see EOS for MQ 7.0.1 is Sept 2015, is that also true for MQ on z/OS?
It didn't specify the platforms, so I would think so. |

My nit: An extensive foundation z/OS skill set is required to perform and understand MQ setup, config and admin. Its remarkable that fixed 80 column record format is still in wide use and most things are batch and JCL oriented. I no longer work on z/OS MQ and I don't miss it one bit.

It's curious that your primary lament is that the z/OS (MVS) scripting language (JCL) is still 80 character record oriented.
The 80 character record is merely an artifact from pre-computer IBM-card days. It is still with us (in JCL) because there continues to be no compelling reason to change it.
Yes, a greater level of technical knowledge is required to administer z/OS. Surely the benefits of big and reliable iron outweigh the minor annoyance of JCL.

My first ever computer program was written on mark-sense cards in the 1970s.
In the mid 1980's I was working on Honeywell Bull mainframes that were booted from mag tape reels and a few years later were able to boot from removable hard disk packs (10 platters, 300 MB). On one occasion I witnessed a mainframe boot from about 2000 punch cards due to a mag tape controller failure. We also used punch cards every day to connect remote 132 column line printers (DPS6) to the mainframe. Those were the days.
