As IBM and Apple recently made a collaboration on some Cloud, Big Data and Mobile Technologies and going to spend lots of money & time/efforts on them, do we also see the future of WebSphere Products (specifically like MQ and MB/IIB) getting the new platform(Apple O.S.) to be deployed onto ?

I can't see that there'll be a sudden rush of people wanting to install IBM MQ on their Mac Book, iMac, iPad, or Apple Watch, so no. And since Apple have stopped making servers, no again. But what do I know?

I don't see Apple OS (and I don't think Apple see it) as an "OS" that runs server software. At a push, I can see some of the development tools being ported so you can knock up some IIB applications on your iPad but frankly I think IBM will port the development tools into a web browser rather than onto Apple; similar effort but gives IBM access to any platform that runs a browser (including an iPad).
My view is this collaboration is more about merging MQTT, Big Data and BlueMix with Apple devices than our end of the shop.

Well, of course, MacOS is unix under the covers, so it's certainly just fine as a server platform.
Except that it's a weird Unix compared to things like SUSe and Ubuntu....
And, as has been said, there's not a lot of people using it as a server platform, so there's not a lot of reason for IBM to ship these on MacOS.
That said, if they suddenly announced it was available... Would you really use it? |

Well the servers would be prettier. And getting updates applied would be a lot easier; just tell management the version has gone from 5 to 6 and watch them shamble off, muttering "must plan upgrade.....must plan upgrade...need bigger screen on server....wear server on wrist....upgrade...."

How many mac-mini's can you fit in a standard 19' rack bay.... one.... two..... three.... four... |

Can I bid 24? This is in a 4U space. Use for load testing at a previous employer. They were able to generate DDOS levels of HTTP Requests.
Mind you they weren't running OSX but CentOS.

I'd stuff it onto the wife's Mac Book and train her up, then I can sit with my feet up watching her bringing home the bacon...

Agree !!
Here Darwin has puzzelled me.. when I tried running some Linux commands on it..

Not sure if IBM THINKs that way !!
But Yes, I know there are lots of people and companies which are using Apple MacOS for their daily use and business work respectively.

My MacBook is old enough and now called as 'Legacy System', when I checked about it's upgrade with Apple's Customer Service Unit. Leaving the upgrade issues behind, yes, before it dies I would like to give it a treat after installing MQ and MB on it and let is run for sometime...

Yea.. Easy and Quick access on Lightweight development tools that doesn't bother about hardware and resource management..
