Greetings

I would like to hear of people's experience with large messages through the broker (v2.1). We have a client who tends to use files rather than messages and some of them are quite large (many MB). We are looking to split the files and I'm interested in what other people think the largest message size should be. On previous projects, we found that for a given message structure, performace drastically decreased as message size increased. I realise this is dependent on message complexity and grunt of the hardware but I'm interested in any experiences you may have had or rules-of-thumb you work to.

Thanks

Yes the size does matter a lot for performance. Messages upto 4 MB are processed pretty fast but as the size goes beyond that the processing slows down significantly. I have personally done stress testing with upto 16MB messages. The message processing rate was very slow for 16 Mb messages so we are trying to avoid large messages and ensuring that source applications don't send large messages to WMQI brokers.

Thanks for replying Kiran.

Can you indicate the specifications (memory/processors) of the machine that processed the 4MB message? Was it XML, CWF or TDF?

For 16MB message how did you handle the message segmentation - or were you using 100MB message size.

Thanks

We are using Sun Solaris 5.8 with 2 GB Memory. We are converting XML messages to TDF format using a message set. For 16MB messages we increased max. message length on queue to 100 MB. Did not use segmentation.
