We use WMQ tool instead of MQ Explorer. One of the handy features it has is, 'refresh queues' which is conspicuously lacking in IBM MQ Explorer. We have been using this feature every time we change an attribute of a remote queue, for a couple of years now and never has it caused any issues.
For an argument sake, is that feature of 'refresh' an unsupported action by IBM and may indeed break things? -Thanks

I think you will find that "refresh" means to reload the queue information into the tool.
AFAIK, there is no queue refresh function in WMQ.
I use MO71 and that has a "refresh" button as well. _________________ Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error. This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to human error. |

Can you say a little about what 'refresh' actually does? _________________ Paul Clarke

@zpat actually there is and we have been using it for while now.
@PaulClarke It updates MQ with new queue information. Eg. remote queue with a different xmitq. |

I doubt it.
When you apply the changes to the queue using MQ explorer or MO71 it immediately does the ALTER queue (or PCF equivalent).
That changes the queue. In terms of remote queues, the changes may not be effective until the application has re-opened the remote queue (in fact the alter may not be possible while it is open).
The refresh button simply reloads the queue information into the display you are looking at. It does not apply the changes into the queue manager - that has already happened. _________________ Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error. WMQ Tool, not IBM WMQ. You missed the 'tool' part. WMQ does not have it, that's why the question.
Your last line answers my question. |
