One of my manual ativity in process is assigned to 3 persons and implemeted by PEA. 3 workitems would be created. Now, if the activity Start type is Automatic and all 3 persons are logged in, the program will be launched for one person and the workitem would be in Disabled state for other two.
Who will be that lucky fellow?

Andy:
It is unknown who the "lucky fellow" will be. Generally for an automatic activity you would NOT assign 3 users. _________________ John McDonald

I guess I am a little confused.
If the Activity is automatic, then from what I know, it wont even generate a workitem. So the question of who gets the workitem should not arise.
If the activity doesnot satisfy its exit condition, then the workitem will be generated for all the 3 users. Ofcourse this is v332 talk. _________________ -Ratan |

Have you actually seen what you have stated? I am most interested in the statement that there will be 3 work items generated. I think that you are probably right regarding the fact that no workitem is initially generated (although I am going to run a little test to check this when I get a chance since I do not recall if the "Workitemless Activity" depends on the "Program can run unattended" checkbox or not). However, IF you have seen the 3 workitems, that would imlply to me that "Staff Resolution" was happening after the activity completed.
Let me know your thoughts on this.

Ahh, now I get it. John, you are right. I think workitemless activity is for "Program can run unattended" (I was thinking this was implied when Andy said Automatic start).

you are right again. generating 3 workitems doesnot really make sense.
I will also test it, but first I will go and get more sleep. _________________ -Ratan |

No bother to test unless you dont trust me
I did the following:
1 activity set to auto start pointing to a VB app w/ a button that would set exit condition to fail. NOTE that this is AUTOSTART but not UNATTENDED. This activity is assigned to a role w/ 5 users in it.
As soon as I createandstart (logged in as one of the 5 users in the role) The VB app pops up like expected... HOWEVER, a check of the workitems reveals that there are indeed 5... one in a running state, 4 disabled.
So my old brain has again prooved to be not totally unreliable Every once in a while I can remember something and not have to actually go look it up. Of course if I was totally convinced of my brains reliability, I would not have had to run the test in the first place....
Moral: Workitemless Activity needs AUTOSTART and UNATTENDED. _________________ John McDonald

I knew you were right and I was completely wrong. I just said I will test it as you mentioned you will run a test if you have TIME.
Moral: I should first verify and if possible test before contradicting. _________________ -Ratan |
