I am running a mixed environment on OS/390 V2R9 talking to various versions of Solaris and WIN2K. I have Client Attachment Feature installed on MQS V5R3 passing data to a queue manager running V5R2. My issue is with the channel defined to allow CAF to function. The SVRCONN channel starts and stops repeatedly all day. IBM was no help, basically saying to deal with it. Wondering if anyone has seen anything like this before.

23.31.27 STC01870 +CSQX500I P390 CSQXRESP Channel CHANNEL1 started
23.31.27 STC01870 +CSQX501I P390 CSQXRESP Channel CHANNEL1 is no longer active
23.31.27 STC01870 +CSQX500I P390 CSQXRESP Channel CHANNEL1 started
23.31.27 STC01870 +CSQX501I P390 CSQXRESP Channel CHANNEL1 is no longer active
23.31.28 STC01870 +CSQX500I P390 CSQXRESP Channel CHANNEL1 started
23.31.28 STC01870 +CSQX501I P390 CSQXRESP Channel CHANNEL1 is no longer active

As you see it is very recursive. This happens in times when there is no data to pass. Can I fix this, or is it a WAD thing?

If you set the Disconnect interval to 0, the channels will stay up. This, however, is not recommended.

For a SVRCONN channel, this is not an option. When your client app requests a connection, it will start a channel which will stay up until a disconnect is issued.

PS...What's a WAD thing??

This is a normal picture when you're using SVRCONN channels.

All it tells you is that the channel was started and ended when the client application have finished what it was doing..

Just my $0.02

That is IBM'ese for "Working As Designed"

So then I just have to put up with thousands of these messages every day?

If changing your application design is not an option, perhaps you can speak to your MVS sys progs about suppressing this message. From memory, it can be supressed from the system console only or from both the system console and the SDSF output. Remember that doing so will suppress this message appearing when all other channels start/stop.

Regards,
Sean.
