The "offline" documentation for MB is absolutely awful, with those BAT files to start and stop some Java program .... but I can use it when I am not connected.
MB version 9 "publib" is at URL ...
>>> http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/wmbhelp/v9r0m0/index.jsp
... but can't be reached when disconnected !
Is there any PDF or EPUB of the MB v9 manuals I can download to my PC ?
Tx ! Sebastian.

That's not MQ, that's IB/WMB.
Can't you just install the toolkit to your laptop or something like that? |

Yes, this is the "provisional" solution I am using in my professional workstation, but I guess you will agree I can not install a 3 GB Toolkit in my son's PC just to have the MB manuals ...

Ah, I'd assumed you had your own workstation. Your client doesn't provide you with the equipment needed to do the job?
Anyway, just install the documentation to your son's laptop then, and - assuming it's a Windows machine - put some PID/CMD files in your start menu or desktop to do all the tedious starting up of java machines. |

in my home PC I do have MQ documentation and the BATs to start/stop the Java program
But it is the MB documentation I am missing ?
Where can I download it in a "standalone" fashion, without Toolkit ? |

I don't think you can, unless you fashion some way to download the online info center. There's no such package in the repository that I can see. |

The OnLine help center has its advantadges and uses - good intra-document search, multiple windows.
And OffLine PDFs have other good things, as availability.
The same happens with the "numbered" error messages.
Why were they removed ?
Why MB error messages dont have a number to search for ?
Crazy.
Enjoy your weekend. Sebastian. |

Errrrrm. They do. For WMB and IIB they start with 'BIP', then four digits, then a letter.
Can you give me an example of a message emitted by IIB or WMB without a number? _________________ Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away, and you have their shoes too. |

The v9 info center has a button to "print topics". oddly enough it looks like a printer.
You can easily print to a PDF.
And then three weeks later, when the info center gets silently updated, you can print to another PDF.
And, of course, you get a free pass to whinge that the documentation used to be so much more readable in the old days. |

mr Kimbert : just went to the Event Viewer (how I hate Guindous logs ...)
and here you are
Code: |
( IB9NODE.EGmine ) An error occurred in node 'Dispatcher.toCommandServer' writing message to queue ''SYSTEM.ADMIN.COMMAND.QUEUE'' on queue manager ''''. State = '-1' ''MQW102'' '2142' '''' |
mr Gralgrathor - I am with MB v9, of course
mr Simbu : I shall go into that, of course. Thanks for the pointer.
mr mqjeff - it is good to be able to print one topic ... to a pdf file. But you'd agree the whole documentation shall be quite large to go thru using this method. I tried "wget", of course, without success.
But I still I dont understand why I can not have "messagebroker_ESQL.pdf" for version 9 ... Do you know any reason ?
The one I use most is "messagebroker_Message_Flows.pdf", also version 6.1
And I have another complain : why are there so few ESQL samples ?
Well, lets be positive : I like this forum and I find quite nice feedback here.
Enjoy. Sebastian. |

The lack of examples is what keeps us grey haired old farts/grumpy old men in gainful employment.
Sadly a lot of other IBM products also suffer from a lack of examples so IIB is not alone here.
My yardstick was the old VMS DCL. It had totally structured help with lots of examples. Whilst an old Unix/Linux user myself, anyone who says 'manpages' deserves to be dunked in the nearest smelly pond and made to sit there for a whole day. I have submitted changes to a number of Linux man pages over the years but honestly, the whole lot really needs sending to the great bit bucket in the sky, forgotten about and a new 21st century set of help created. _________________ WMQ User since 1999

I dont agree on the policy to have the knowledge restricted, so just few people manage (and dont spread) it.
I think the more we know, the better the community grows, and the projects get larger.
As Linux : maybe "man" pages are not the best, but you go Google and you shall find lots and lots of code samples. All kinds. At least, from basic to intermediate level, where I live.
But yes, you are right, I have lived on other people's lack of knowledge. Even in the university it was fun to tech young people, and it was a pleasure to see them growing. |
