After having followed the installation instructions, produced the appropriate users and groups, I go to the IBExplorer, choose to generate the Default Configuration (consisting of an IB9QMGR and IB9NODE + attributes), and get this:

I've run this under various users, always checking that setmqenv and mqsiprofile are run beforehand, and that all the appropriate paths are set. The result is always the same: somehow the script 'forgets' its environment by the time it gets to the mqsicreatebroker step.
Alternatively, if I start the IBExplorer after having run only setmqenv and not mqsiprofile, the log reads as follows:

Am I missing something? Has anybody else seen the same thing? Any advice?

Do you have a single MQ environment or multiple ones? Maybe you should create the qmgr up front before creating the broker that will live on top of it... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

It's a single MQ environment, on a clean, newly installed Ubuntu machine, to which I've added only ia32-libs-gtk before installing MQ and IIB.

Same thing. Created an IB9QMGR with default settings, then tried to create the broker IB9NODE under the same user:
Code: |
$ strmqm IB9QMGR
WebSphere MQ queue manager 'IB9QMGR' starting.
The queue manager is associated with installation 'Installation1'.
5 log records accessed on queue manager 'IB9QMGR' during the log replay phase.
Log replay for queue manager 'IB9QMGR' complete.
Transaction manager state recovered for queue manager 'IB9QMGR'.
WebSphere MQ queue manager 'IB9QMGR' started using V7.5.0.0.
$ mqsilist
BIP1281I: No brokers have been defined on this machine.
BIP8071I: Successful command completion.
$ mqsicreatebroker IB9NODE -q IB9QMGR -s active
BIP8967E: Failed to create the queue manager 'IB9QMGR' because the Websphere MQ environment has not been set up.
The Websphere MQ environment must be set up for the command mqsicreatebroker to be able to create a queue manager. Run the setmqenv command from the install of the version of Websphere MQ you want to use to create the queue manager.
|
I think I've established with the first two commands that the MQ environment *is* set up, and the MQSI profile as well. So why mqsicreatebroker should complain about it not being set up is odd to me.
Perhaps it's another one of those architecture thingies. _________________ A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. |

As the old country saying goes,
I wouldn't start from here.
Seriously though, I've never managed to get it all running reliably on any version of Ubuntu. On the other-hand, RHEL/CentOS? No problemo.
Just take care with setting the primary group on your broker user and setting up the .bashrc's correctly and it all works (for me anyway) but I would say that as I'm a RHEL & RHCT certified.
most of my Linux friends are moving away from Ubuntu. Rock Solid Debian seems to be the most common destination. Mint and a few have even moved to the 'dark side' and started using CentOS. Mind you a local CentOS event (a.k.a jolly) may have had something to do with that.
My main issue with the output from Canonical is that even LTS versions are anything but stable IMHO. _________________ WMQ User since 1999

I chose Ubuntu because, besides it being the OS I am most familiar with, it's supported by IBM, as per documentation. I might try CentOS next, but I'd really like to get the default configuration running the way it's supposed to. _________________ A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. |

Did you have a primary installation defined in WMQ?
It might no like that there is no primary installation defined... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Yes, that's what the command is complaining about. Curiously, it didn't complain about that when I defined the queue manager manually.
Yes, I followed the installation instructions to the letter (the bit about "what to do next" is relevant here). _________________ A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. |

One of my objections to Ubuntu is the changes they are making to some key areas that may adversely affect the operation of software such as WMQ & BRoker.
IMHO the whole essence of products like WMQ & Broker is that they are used for stable production environments. An OS like RHEL/CentOS/SUSE gives you up to 10 years stability of environment. Ubuntu LTS can't come anywhere near that. _________________ WMQ User since 1999

The minimum supported level of WMQ for IIB v9 is 7.5.0.1. You might want to try updating WMQ (the latest version is 7.5.0.3) and see if that resolves the problem. |

Sharp eyes. I only noticed a minute ago. I didn't RTFM carefully enough, and I really need 7502 minimum. I've got some additional problems after running the upgrade, so I'll post after I've got things running again. In the end, it was indeed the MQ version.
First I tried with 7500, because I was careless in following instructions. Then I tried with 7501 because I didn't properly *read* the instructions. Then I went with 7502, and it worked like a charm. Same for 7503. _________________ A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. |
