Hello All,
Environment:::MQ 7.0.1
OS:::WINDOWS 2008 R2
There are some dll files missing on a windows 2008 mq server,due to which the transactional clients cannot be supported.
I have been advised to installed the XTC component(SUPPORT PAC), but now the component is included in the CLIENT installation files(there is no client installed on the server,only mq server is installed).
Also i do not see any qm.ini or mqs.ini files as well.
do we need qm.ini or mqs.ini on windows servers as there is explorer installed?
So i am confused whether to install the client(doubt whether it could resolve the issue) or reinstall the mq server itself.
Please advise |

.ini files are for UNIX platforms. Windows platforms maintain the equivalent information in the Registry.
Someone will likely be by shortly to correct me, but I seem to recall that the Extended Transactional Client needs WMQ Base Client. You can install both WMQ Client and Server in the same o/s image. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

The Extended Transaction Client is an MQ Client.
Its not clear if the OP wants to make MQ Client calls from his server and is saying the Extended Transaction Client is missing. Of if some client on some other servers can't connect to this server because some server side files are missing.
Either way if you have MQ Server installed and you need MQ Client or MQ Extended Transaction Client, you need the client files that come with MQ Server install media. You cannot use the client files from the Support Packs on a server with full MQ server.
Run the MQ Server install again and choose the custom option. Select all the options you need. _________________ Peter Potkay

Which may not work if you have applied a fixpack. You may have to remove all of WMQ (it leaves your QMGR intact) and fo a full re-install & patch. _________________ WMQ User since 1999

You won't be able to apply the MQ Client support pack. You gotta get the client libs from the Mq Server media.
And as smdavies99 says, if you already applied a Fix pack, the base MQ server media will balk at trying to install anything over a newer version.
If your base media is 7.0.1.3 (I think that's the lates GA version), you gotta roll back off of 7.0.1.12, add your missing components, then apply the latest fix pack again, which will patch EVERYTHING you have installed at that point. _________________ Peter Potkay

I did not apply the fix pack,still working on a solution.
The MQ SERVER base version i have here is MQ 7.0.1.
I have another server which is on the same MQ level which is working fine(also has the client installed).I understand that on this server, the client has been installed with the SERVER installation.
Could you please elucidate the point you made"You gotta get the client libs from the Mq Server media and add the missing components"
Thank you |

If you need to install MQ Client on a server that never has MQ installed on it, you can install the MQ Client from the MQ Support Pack, or from the MQ Client option from the full MQ Server media.
If you have a server with MQ Server installed and you now want to add MQ Client, you cannot use the MQ Client Support Pack as an option. You must use the MQ Server media to install its version of MQ Client.
Seems like an odd restriction, but true. At least it has been for many years (search on this site and you'll see). maybe they finally got rid of this oddity in the latest version of MQ. Maybe not. _________________ Peter Potkay

Thank you for the reply
We went ahead and modified the installation, adding only the missing components(XTC).
Were able to restore all the .dll files missing , the installation looks good for now. |

AFAIK on 7.0 the only way to get the XTC is to install from the server media.
The XTC only became a free item if you were licensed for a version higher than 7.0 if memory serves well... and you could then also use it for free in 7.0
