Question - If we lost MQSeries on one LPAR due to crash or whatever.
Would I be able to bring that specific MQSERIES MQMGR on a different LPAR with all defined PSID's ( everything ) ....... _________________ THANKS |

It depends....
If you're using an old fashion one (wÃthout shared queues), then the answer will be yes. There might be a challange regarding TCP/IP... because the queue manager shall use it's old IP-address.
When dealing with Shared queues, it will require that it's connected DB2-datashare-member is started on the same LPAR. (still same challanges on communication).

I have moved several z/OS managers from one machine to another (client req). All migrations required changing the name and IP address. So, answering your question, it is possible to recreate a manager having its PSIDs. _________________ Marcin Grabinski <>< |

Hi
What is your specific problem? My method of moving one manager to another was to unload PSIDs from the old QM and load them into the new one. I also used MAKEDEF to copy definitions. I didn't move BSDSs nor logs. _________________ Marcin Grabinski <>< |

Hmm,
restarting QM without BSDS and logs after failover... normally the QMGR will not start, it require a CSQUTIL run to reset the RBA. (I've just faced the problem when deleting a PSID (forgot to issue RESETPAGE).
Another thing here is how to assure integrity without the logs and BSDS ?
MQ don't know what was happing.. if some failure happend..

To be more specific - I created a new queue manager (with BSDS and logs), moved the contents of the old one and started the new. I did it several times and had no problems with it. _________________ Marcin Grabinski <>< |

By the way.. why not just starting it on another LPAR in the sysplex ??
Why create a new one ?? Test purpose ??
I did some recovery, but that was in respect to LPAR recovery, DASD recovery using FUZZY BACKUP without any problems. (all done on mirrored images).
I just interested
