To all,

When Updating Message Broker Toolkit 8.0.0.102 to Toolkit Fixpack 8.0.0.2 I get this error:

containing directory could not be set for directory shortcut ibm websphere message broker toolkit

Installation Manager fails to successfully update. I'm using IM 1.50.

Does anyone know the reason for this error and the workaround/fix?

Thanks,
EC

To work around this issue:

1. Verify that the /usr/share/desktop-directories directory is writable.
2. Before you start Installation Manager, redirect the shortcut creation to a different folder.

On Linux, UNIX, IBM i, and z/OS, define the $XDG_DATA_HOME and the XDG_CONFIG_HOME environment variables with a value that points to a writable directory.

For example:

$export XDG_DATA_HOME=/var/shortcuts
$export XDG_CONFIG_HOME=/var/shortcuts

On Windows, define the StartMenuPrograms system property with a value that points to a writable directory.

For example:

-DStartMenuPrograms=c:\shortcuts

I'm on a Windows XP (Yeah Ha!) SP3 desktop/laptop.

That won't work. This problem occurs with the most recent IM. The only option at present is the work around described until our good friends make changes to the IM software.

I have some questions on this. Where do I make this setting? I don't see any environment variables with this name. What is the 'StartMenuPrograms' system property? I am not familiar with this. Where do I see system properties? How do i know where to point this setting...here you have c:\shortcuts? How do I know what to set this to?

Is this a command switch to use when starting IM?

Can I get a little bit more of a step by step.

Thanks very much,
Eric

-DStartMenuPrograms=c:\shortcuts would be a flag you throw on the command line when starting IM.

If that doesn't work, I have no further info on it, as this is all that is posted on the IBM site. PMR would be the next step, or upgrade to a modern version of Windows like Windows 7 Professional.
