Hello MQ Gurus,

I have one confusion. For MQ Client installation/upgrade, Please suggest me which of one is good approach.

1) Uninstallation of lower version and install new version. Like if i want upgarde MQ Client from 7.1.0.0 to 7.1.0.2. I uninstall 7.1.0.0 and install MQ Client 7.1.0.2.

2) Applying fix pack 7.1.0.2 on top of 7.1.0.0 on MQ Client ?

I was under impression the best approach is first one, but i found my collegue doing second approach.

Please suggest me.

Thank you in advance.

So, do you think that uninstalling every time and re-installing - assuming you can get a distribution of the software that is base+FixPackn is available - is an efficient way of doing things?

Under what set of metrics is 'best' defined?

What does the documentation say on the procedure to follow?

Does the documentation give the same procedure for every platform that supports Client?

Thank for your reply mqjeff,

I don't have any set of Matrices. Full version of MQ Client 7.1.0.2 was available on IBM site. Instead of applying fixpack i choose full version.

Document is clear for MQ Server. I might be missing anything, i did not find about applying fix pack on Cleint.

Please advise.

You asked what the "best" method was. My most worthy associate is asking what you mean by "best" in this context:

- fastest
- safest
- cheapest
- etc
- etc

I think it's best to uninstall the client and reinstall the new one because I'm paid by the hour.
My boss thinks it's best to install the new one over the top of the old one because I'm paid by the hour.
The sys admins think it's best to uninstall the client and reinstall the new one because they can use the new image for their gold build.
The support people think it's best to install the new one over the top of the old one because they have a time-limited maintenance window.

So again, what's your definition of "best"?
