Hi,
Currently I have a MQ manager version 6 sitting on a machine and would like to install MQ 7 client on this machine.
Can these be done? Can they co-exist?
Appreciate your respond.

Not officially. You don't get any kind of coexistance with any 6.0 installs of any kind.
You can't coexist anything until 7.0.1.3 or later.
Officially. |

Jeff,
Thanks. Meaning to say if I upgrade my existing manager to 7.0.x, I will be able to install 7.0.x or 7.1 client on the same server?

Yes, you can install the client component as part of a server install, even at v6.
You can, at v7.1 and later, install separate installations that are the 7.1 Server install (including the client component) and a separate installation that is the 7.1 Client install.
You can install 7.0.1.x as the default install, either the Server install (possibly including the client component) or the Client install as a single installation.
You can then coexist other 7.1 or later components with that 7.0.1.x installation.
For example, on my machine right now, I have a default 7.0.1.x install that is the Server install (with the client component), and another install of the 7.1 Server install (with the client component), and another install of the 7.1 Client install, and another install of the 7.5 Server (with client component) install.
Before 7.1, if you have a Server install of any level of MQ, you can add the Client component to that install at the same fixpack level of MQ.
So you can't, officially, install the 7.0.1.x client component into a 6.0 Server install. But if you upgrade the 6.0 to a 7.0.1.x server install, you can then install the 7.0.1.x client component into that.
I realize this is not terribly clear. The key points are Server install can include client as a component at the same level, and Client is a separate install from Server, and coexistance at 7.0.1.x and later gives you lots more options. |

Hmm.. I am actually thinking in a way that installing V7 client component on the same server as V6 manager and treat it as separate installation. V6 MQ will not see V7 client.
How is that possible?
Btw, thanks for the detail explanation. They are very useful

It's not officially possible, that is, you can't get the installer to do this for you. |
