Hello All,

I have an issue connecting WebSphere MQ on Windows to WebSphere MQ on UNIX.

Queues are connected, but I'm unable to send messages from Windows to UNIX and vise versa.

The Queue Manager on the Windows has a CCSID different from the one on the UNIX queue manager. I noticed that when the CCSID is the same, the message will be sent (tested on Windows) not between two different platforms.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
Ayham.

So when you say "tested on Windows" you mean that you've set up 2 Windows queue managers and got messages to go between them when the queue managers have the same CCSID but not sent when you change one of the CCSIDs?

Or do you mean that if you set up 2 Windows queue managers (which happen to have the same CCSID) messages flow but that messages don't flow between Windows and Unix and you've through some process decided that the CCSID is to blame?

My first guess is you've jumped to a conclusion. That's based on the CCSID being an unlikely suspect for the problem you're describing but mostly on the fact you've told us very little about the problem and therefore probably havn't really looked into it.

For instance:

What do you mean by "unable to send messages"? What happens when you try? They sit on the transmission queue? Your application abends? They disappear, and never call or write?

What have you done to investigte, apart from this one information-free post on the Internet? Are the channels running? Are there any messages in the channel logs? Do the normal network tests pass?

If you think it's the CCSID what have you actually done to verify this? Where is conversion set to be done? Is conversion set to be done?

The only real scenario where you could get a CCSID problem to prevent message transfer is if you had conversion set at channel level and an unknown CCSID. In which event a) you're in a trap of your own making using channel level conversion and b) you wouldn't have needed to post here as the reason code in the message's DLH would have told you what the problem was.

What do you mean "queues are connected"?

Describe how you have connected the queues.

Generally, one or the other qmgr should generate an error message, or put a message on a DLQ somewhere, that should help explain what's going on.

That may or may not be a problem; what are the two ccsids? By default, WMQ supports connecting qmgrs only within the same National Language group; qmgrs can also set up default data conversion, to handle connections to qmgrs working with different national languages.
