Question still remains - Can queue manager part of 400 clusters?

1 queue manager can host queue objects which are participating in any number of clusters. There might be some internal limit on the amount of cluster information a given queue manager can hold but I assert that you hit the limit of sensible cluster topology long before you hit the technical limit. I see the OP's 253 clusters as far to many, 400 clusters in a single environment is insane.

Any performance implications on Queue manager..

Clearly; it has 400 cluster channel connections to manage for a start.

This is aside from the implication for the performance of the WMQ admin who has to run all of this. Also with that number of clusters how can you possible secure them? Or troubleshoot mis-delivered messages?

I'm looking for the link which supports your assertion that having 253 entries in a REPSONL namelist is an "IBM standard".

Sorry if I have said above statement.. I mean to say 255(256) entries in a namelist of a REPOSNL is an IBM standard.

Ok so what can be the sensible limit according to you if 256 is the technical limit?

NO, NO, and NO again! It is NOT, repeat NOT, a standard - it is a limit.

The sensible limit is to have only the number of clusters as required to achieve the solution, e.g. an organisation may have a Retail cluster and a Wholesale cluster; the fact you have so many clusters smacks of someone trying to isolate applications by grouping them into clusters, which it doesn't unless you have the OAM side of things really tight and locked down (which I suspect you don't - all application IDs in the mqm group are they? Or have full access to the S.C.T.Q?) but even then is such an administrative nightmare that problems are bound to occur.

IMHO double figures (above 10) is the largest number that can be sensibiliy administered and secured. I also struggle to see any requirement that would require more than that to meet it.

Others may have different views.

Remember that a namelist is a general IBM object. It's not just for listing clusters.

While not always the case, clusters are usually created to represent business function, organization or geography.

It is not uncommon to see a cluster named FINANCE, and another named RESEARCH, to provide separation between business functions that only occasionally intersect.

It would not be uncommon to see a cluster for geographic regions, like WEST-COAST, MID-WEST, EAST-COAST, if there is a business requirement such separation.

What business requirement lead your organization to develop so many individual clusters?
