I sympathize with your desire to perform an evaluation of the product. I would suggest you take the classes first to learn how to use the tool; then install and use the tool.

If I gave you a jet aircraft, and you had no pilot training, your first evaluation flight most likely will be your last ! Learn to fly first, then evaluate the jet aircraft.

WMB is alot like a jet aircraft. It is a finely-tuned, well-oiled machine. Out-of-the-box, very little tuning is needed to get it to perform to its highest potential.

You must follow the step-by-step installation instructions in order to get WMB runtime to work. If you skip steps, or steps you are required to perform have an error, then obviously the installation will be faulty.

You cannot learn WMB in a weekend or by trial and error because, just like the jet aircraft, you must know how to use the tool before you use it. WMB is not like Java. WMB is elegant, highly optimized solution for transformation and routing. Get the training first, then evaluate the product.

FWIW, I got the products working following the same installation procedure on a different machine running Windows Server 2003. It worked the first time I tried it. Even the much-talked-about change user command gave basically the same output as on the other machine.
Code:
Install mode does not apply to a Terminal server configured for remote administration.

So that still seems to not be the source of the problem.
