If I may interject a few more thoughts...
WMQ uses what any good database uses to ensure that no data is lost - it logs changes. In fact, WMQ uses DB2's internal logging infrastructure to ensure that persistent messages (an application choice) are written to disk logs before they are put to queues.
In the event of an application failure, a qmgr failure, or a server failure, logs have the last good copy of your messages.
As with databases, at (qmgr) restart, logs are replayed to ensure that units of work (syncpoints, an application choice) that did not complete are undone.
We usually tend to think of hardware when we discuss "fault tolerance." RAID disks address fault tolerance.
In WMQ-speak, we talk about "assured message delivery - messages are delivered once and once-only, with no loss or duplication." _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.
