Hi Webspherian,
I have a few questions about linear logging.
Just for test/POC whatever we can call it, I tried this
created a queue manager with linear log
as I wanted to test what happened after log get full and want to put message to make the log full so I thought to make log file size as small as possible. so the least I can do was lf =32.
I created qmgr with -ll and -lf 32, -lp 2 -ls3, when I checked, I found 7 log files were created
then I created another qmgr leaving both log size and log file # default, when I checked, the qmgr was created with 3 primary log files.
why is so ? is there any rule that the total log capacity should be certain in case of liner log?
when I put message ( around 68k), 10 log files were there. this is understandable. But it only should create the file when the messages do require another file. but a message in error log files says I can get rid of uoto 5th log files. As I was doing this to show my friend, he thought that at a point only 5 ( the primary and secondary) # log files are active.
when the message says upto 5th files can be deleted, does it mean only from the object recovery point of view? I think all of these files have messages in them but how can I delete upto 5th?
Also, when I pump same number of message to a qmgr with circular log log files were not created.
does this mean the log file in liner logging system also keep some other information ( like object recovery)?
thanks |

Interesting question. But when you used sensible log file sizes, like you would have to do for real world testing, did you see any such anomalies? |

you probably could answer all those questions yourself with a little bit of research. Please also look at the linear log maintenance fix packs. I like MS0L. Others are also available... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |
