Capitalware is pleased to announce the release of MQ File Mover v4.0.0. It is a free open source project.
MQ File Mover (MQFM) is a managed file transfer solution that facilitates the transfer of files using IBM’s WebSphere MQ. MQFM processes "Action" commands which are controlled through an MQFM Workflow XML file. The user combines a series of Action commands to create the MQFM Workflow XML file.
Changes:
- Added support for unlimited file size for Send, Receive and Watch Actions
- Added support for sending the file to a single queue or to multiple queues (at the same time) for Send and Watch Actions
- Added support for end-to-end encryption:
- - Enhanced Send and Watch Actions to have the ability to encrypt a message with AES 128, 192 or 256-bit.
- - Enhanced Receive Action to have the ability to decrypt a message with AES 128, 192 or 256-bit.
- Added support for file locking when reading and writing to/from a file.
- All Actions now have an "On Error Fail" flag.
- Added a DecryptFile Action to decrypt a file with AES 128, 192 or 256-bit.
- Added a EncryptFile Action to encrypt a file with AES 128, 192 or 256-bit.
- Added an If/Else Action to perform a conditional test against an Action’s variable
- Added a Launch Action to invoke an MQFM Workflow XML file.
- Added a Merge Action to merge 2 or more files into a target file
- Added a MergeSort Action to merge 2 or more files and sort the results into a target file
- Added a ReplaceText Action to perform a search and replace of text on a file.
- Added a Schedule Action to invoke an MQFM Workflow XML file at a specific date and/or time.
- Added a SendEmail Action to send an email to 1 or more recipients.
- Added a Sleep Action to pause the Workflow.
- Added a Sort Action to sort a file into a target file
- Added a Touch Action to set the modification time of the file to the current time of day. If the file doesn't exist, it is created.
- Added a Tar Action to create a tar archive from the contents of a file or files in a directory.
- Added an UnTar Action to extract the contents of a tar archive to a directory.
- Added an UnZip Action to extract the contents of a zip archive to a directory.
- Added support for custom logging.

All,
I am very pleased with the response from the MQ community to MQ File Mover v4.0.0 and I would like to politely point out to everyone that yes, MQ File Mover is an open source project however support is NOT included. I am trying out Red Hat/SUSE's style support subscription for MQ File Mover.
I have been getting inundated with emails and phone calls from people who have a "couple of questions" regarding the setup/features of MQ File Mover. While it is great that people are interested in MQ File Mover, free software does not mean free support (it means you need to read the manual). Therefore, I have decided to write a series of documents (blog posting) to help people with their questions. I have so far posted 4 "How To" under the MQ File Mover category on my blog:
http://www.capitalware.biz/rl_blog/?cat=19
Here are quick answers to some very common MQ File Mover questions:
- MQ File Mover requires Java v1.5 or higher (no, it will not work with Java v1.3 or v1.4)
- Yes, MQ File Mover is supported on AIX, HP-UX, IBM i (OS/400), Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris and Windows (plus any other platform that supports Java v1.5 or higher)
- Yes, MQ File Mover can send a file of any size and yes, it uses MQ's message segmentation for large files
- Yes, MQ File Mover can monitor a directory for files - see the Watch Action
- Yes, MQ File Mover requires MQ to be installed along with the MQ/Java component (yes, you can cheat and only copy the MQ JAR files)
- Yes, each Send or Watch Actions can specify different target queues
- Yes, you can run more than 1 Receive Action as a daemon (Unix/Linux) or Windows service (Windows) on the same server
I will be adding more MQ File Mover "How To" blog posting as time goes on. If there is a particular MQ File Mover subject that you would like covered then please email me and I will add it to my list.
Please do not take the above as a rant, I just want to direct people who want free software and free support to the appropriate places (blog and manual).
Regards,
Roger Lacroix

In MQFM v4.0.0, file locking was added to all actions that access (read or write) a file. A customer discovered that a vendor supplied driver (for a file system) does not support JVM file locking and throws the following IOException when the tryLock method was issued:
view sourceprint?
Therefore, a Global attribute was added to the MQFM Workflow, so that file locking can be turned off (file locking is on by default).
view sourceprint?
Code: |
<Global usefilelocking="N" /> |

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions. |
