Folks ,
We upgraded our MQ to 7.5 on WMB 7.0.0.3 environment in Windows 2003. So far everything is good with runtime , but having issues with MB Explorer.
MB Explorer is referring to strmqcfg.exe executable from WMQ 7.0 install , which we removed now.
I tried uninstall and install of MB explorer from WMB 7.0 CD . It installs with warning and warning is about unable to create MB Explorer shortcut with messages "Warning - Shortcut has no target : ignoring" .
So this implies that MB Explorer is trying to link with 7.0 explorer .
WMB 7.0 infocenter and requirements are not that useful as they only say MQ 7.0.1.0 and future fixpacks are supported.
Please advise the correct way to accomplish this. |

7.1 and 7.5 are not "future fixpacks" of 7.0.1.0. They're new versions.
MB 7.0.0.3 does not support MQ 7.1 or MQ 7.5. MB 7.0.0.4 does not support MQ 7.1 or 7.5. MB 8.0.0.0 does not support MQ 7.1 or MQ 7.5.
If you really want to keep using your setup as is, you'll need to install the SupportPac version of MQ Explorer 7.0, and then reinstall MBExplorer.
You could merely create the necessary shortcut, but I think you'll find that MB Explorer doesn't work in MQ 7.5 Explorer. |

Yes agreed . But then whats the point of bringing out new version of MQ with no support from one of their closely knitted product. Expanding your statement , should we ask for IBM support for MB 7.0.0.3 using MQ 7.5 , would the answer be NOT SUPPORTED.??
Not good.

Yes tried it by creating a link to strmqcfg.cmd (implementation is executable strmqcfg.exe in MQ 7.0) , didn't work out. Yes i can go about using supportpac and see how it turns out. Thanks for the suggestion. |

Exactly when would you have expected the behavior of IBM in these matters, which has been consistent for many years, to have changed?
Broker supports newer levels of MQ after they are publicly released, and not all supported versions of Broker will be enhanced to support all supported versions of MQ.
It does not, has not, and very likely will not work any other way.

That's not the link I meant. I meant the link in the MQ Explorer folder that points to the MBExplorer install. |

Got it and it worked. Thanks a bunch.
Your tip should be captured as a technote , hopefully some IBMer's could help the process. |

What makes you think that 'mqjeff' is not an IBM'er? _________________ WMQ User since 1999

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions. |

One would have hoped that the recent WMB 7004 fixpack would support WMQ 7.1 - but it doesn't.
Since we have our WMQ and WMB clusters together - it's certainly going to hold us back from adopting WMQ 7.1 or 7.5 any time soon - but then again maybe there's not really that much new in these versions to get too excited about.
I will be getting my hands on 7.5 next week so I will find out! |

By and large, the best way to get a technote written is to open or update a PMR asking one to be created. |
