Hi All,

I am facing some issues in launching my JAVA/J2ee apps in Debug mode from WAST. I am getting exception like :
"cannot find a free socket for the debugger"
I googled it alot, but could not find a resolution that help to resolve my case.
My AST version is:
Code:
ProductName=IBM WebSphere Application Server Toolkit
Version=6.1.1
Full=Yes
KeyName=ast611

OS: Windos7.

I am posting this in this forum because Iam uisng WMB toolkit also on same machine and is able to launch JAVA debugger successfully from WMB7 toolkit.

But I need to debug application deployed in WAS(Version 6.1) via AST.

I have reinstalled AST and WAS few times with different directories, but still the same issue happens.. I can deploy and run the app successfully, Only issue is with Debug.
May be some network settings issue? Windos 7?

Kindly help me if anyone know some resolution.

(The same AST/WAS is installed in many other machines and don't have such an issue for debug.
Also, please avoid solutions like update AST/Eclipse/WAS etc as I can not go for that at this point of time and my fellow colleagues also installed the product from same installable file, where they don't have such an issue.)

it sounds like your virus software on your workstation won't let your WAST establish any network connections.

Dear mqjeff,

Thanks for the reply..!

I have Symantec corporate security antivirus installed. I tried disabling the antivirus(as the same is suggested from some other forums). But didn't helped me.

Also I am able to debug JAVA from WMB toolkit, But AST is having issues.
And my fellow colleagues having same system configuration, antivirus program were able to debug from AST.

Any Ideas why this strange behaviour?

I believe that your software has blocked the AST program specifically from accessing the network.

Turning off virus checking won't change that, you need to check the rules for network access by program.

Dear mqjeff,

Thanks again..!

Pardon me, I would like to know how to check/change the rules for network access.
I know it sounds not fair to ask this kind of questions, but it is affecting me a lot at this moment.

if you don't mind, please provide some ideas, it will really help me a lot!!!
(Meantime I will try to check with my IT department if they can help)

Hi,

I found some weird way to launch the debugger.
I have killed the antivirus program manually and launched my Java program in debug mode.

But since the anti virus program will launch automatically again, I need to follow this step every time.

However there is another issue.
If I start my WAS in debug mode and trying to launch my program in debug mode after killing the anti virus program, it is not getting success (throwing the same exception).

So the temporary work around solution is:
1. Kill the anti virus program
2. Immediately launch application in debug mode(WAS should be in stopped mode)
3. Start WAS in debug mode finally.

Any idea why I can not launch my JAVA app in debug mode if my WAS is running?

(I need to check how to change my virus program settings, also need to check why I can not debug my application if WAS is started)

Anyway at least I can debug now spending more time.

Thanks a lot for your help mqjeff!
