Wonderful..... Sigh.
I've been waiting for Broker 8 to support MQ 7.1. I wonder when 7.5 will be supported |

I think 7.1 is perhaps a release we will skip - not that there is anything wrong with it - but it doesn't have enough new functional features to justify a large migration effort (in my opinion of course).
Whereas version 7.5 is a very welcome merging of WMQ, FTE, AMS. I am slightly surprised at how soon it is coming out (after 7.1).
Does the FTE function come for free though (on existing WMQ licenses)? |

I had $ bet on the next release being 8.0. Bummer. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

The small print says no: "...They are subject to appropriate licensing entitlement..."
Expected really, I can't see that IBM is going to effectively discount FTE suddenly. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

Even if 7.1 has the ability to make the tea, you might as well push upgrade back a few months & go to 7.5

the important bit about licensing changes here is the license for the Extended Transactional Client.
Quote: |
Changes made to the licensing of the Extended Transactional Client and the WebSphere MQ Telemetry Client benefit all customers in providing increased entitlement. This applies to customers of WebSphere MQ V7.5 as well as WebSphere MQ V7.0.1 and WebSphere MQ V7.1. |
So if you are running at least 7.0.1, there is a significant change to the entitlement for the Extended Transactional Client.
As it says later on the page
Quote: |
With the announcement of WebSphere MQ V7.5, the Extended Transactional Client is available for use in all client deployments without additional entitlement. This includes all supported versions of WebSphere MQ client connecting to any supported version of WebSphere MQ queue manager. |
"Without additional entitlement" means "free". |

Jeff's first quote calls out specific MQ versions.
The second quote says all supported versions, which today and for several more months, would include MQ 6.0. As well as currently installed versions like 7.0.0.2.
The 2 quotes don't agree with each other. _________________ Peter Potkay

That's a question for your IBM sales rep.
My feeling is that there's a difference between running level and entitlement level. I.e. if you have a license for 7.0.1, even if you're only running 6.0, you're covered. But if you only have a license for 6.0, you're not covered.
But again, that's *just my opinion*. |

That is a shame. I get the impression that FTE is not as widely adopted - perhaps if the incremental cost is reduced it might be. It's always hard to argue against the "free" FTP command (yes, I know all the reasons why MFT is better, but that doesn't make projects want to fund it). |

The big news for us is the 7.5 XA client is now free! |

I think all the ETC versions are now free, in effect.
We have a project where the vendor insisted on having the ETC installed (and therefore licensed) - despite the fact there is no sign of any XA coordination taking place (outside of WAS that is). My conclusion is that their code has a MQBEGIN coded superfluously. |

MQBEGIN does not work except when bound to server-side libs... I think. |

It's strange. Maybe they just needed to use the mqetclient.jar file for some other reason. |
