SupportPac MS0P has been updated and the new level is now available at
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg24011617&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en
Highlights of the new version:
1.Updated to support MQ V7.1
Remote Admin understands multiple installations on a machine
Remote Admin supports 64-bit Windows
New events and new event queues supported
Added formatter for Application Activity Trace events
2. Added Message Manager plug-in
Delete selected messages
Move/Copy selected messages to another queue
Write (browse) selected messages to file and screen
3. Various bug fixes and small enhancements
4. The qtune and mqidecode utilities support MQ V7.1
The plug-ins in this new version require that you are running a V7.1 Explorer.
Thanks to those who helped with testing the beta versions. |

This is an excellent support pac - which I would like to see included in the base WMQ product.
Can I ask - can I install the new MS0P version on a PC with only WMQ 7.0.1.x installed, or do I have to install WMQ 7.1 as well?
Or alternatively can I install just MQ explorer 7.1 by itself (with WMQ 7.0.1x on the same machine) and use it against any queue manager version? In that case how would I choose which version of MQ explorer to launch?
Because I don't really want to install (or upgrade to) WMQ 7.1 just yet, but I would like to use the enhancements and bugs fixed in MS0P. |

MQ 7.1 installs completely coexistant with MQ v7.0.1.
So you can install it next to your existing install, without impacting it in any way.
You then end up with multiple copies of MQExplorer, and on windows you can at least create (if you don't get automatically) two separate shortcuts that point to the right copy.
Likewise, on linux, you can simply run the correct copy of strmqcfg. |

I thought you might say that.
OK, if I do have two installs of WMQ and then install WMB Message Broker Explorer v7 or v8 - which MQ Explorer install does it attach itself to? |

Broker Explorer only runs in MQ Explorer v7.0.1 right now.
You can manually install it into MQExplorer 7.1, but it won't work terribly well.
Remember that no shipping release of Broker supports MQ v7.1. |

I don't really want two versions of MQ on my PC. But I need to run broker 6.1, 7 and 8.
So I will need to keep MQ 701 for sometime to come...
It's somewhat easier for IBM support pac developers to move on and ignore the "old" MQ version - not so easy for the rest of us!
We've only just ditched MQ 5.3 and getting rid of MQ v6 is still an issue!! So not supporting MQ 7.01 in this support pac is a little disappointing. |

The V7.1 Explorer has some new/changed interfaces that MS0P exploits - in particular for the new Message Manager plug-in. There were also some changes in the Navigator tree design internally, which gave it significant performance improvements. It wasn't an option for the new MS0P release to stick with a V7.0.1 base. |

I did try installing the 7.1 version of MS0T (explorer) on top of MQ 7.01 and it seems to work.
MQ 7.1 explorer does seem faster - MQ explorer has (up to now) been painfully slow (mine spends half its time flickering!). Also I used to get a blank view in the navigator pane for no apparent reason.
I guess I will upgrade to MQ 7.1 (on my PC at least) once the supporting fixpacks are out for WMB 6.1, 7 and 8. Also when the first fixpack to 7.1 has hit the streets! |

Mark, I recently upgraded to MQ Explorer 7.5 and installed MS0P onto my Windows setup with no issue. (I love this SupportPac by the way). I tried to do the same to my lab environment running completely on Redhat Linux and found that the plugin did not show up in MQ Explorer. Does this supportpac work on Linux? I didn't see anything that specifically mentions that it was or was not support in the included PDF but all the examples only seem to mention Windows file paths.
Thanks
Eddie
Update: I just did a complete uninstall/reinstall of MQ 7.5.0.2 including MQ Explorer. At that point I added the MS0P to the fresh setup and it picked it up fine. Must have been a glitch on my setup. Thanks |
